Outage Reporting: Skip the Hold, Stay in the Know

Posted on Jul 06, 2026 at 10:28 AM

Before storms and unexpected outages occur, it’s important to know the most effective ways to report a power outage. While calling our office is always an option, the quickest methods are our outage texting system, TextTCEMC, and the myTCEMC mobile app. These tools allow you to report an outage in seconds without waiting on hold during periods of high call volume. Even better, members enrolled in outage texting can receive updates throughout the restoration process, keeping them informed as crews work and when power has been restored. Having these options ready before an outage occurs can save valuable time and help you stay connected during severe weather events.

Tri-County EMC offers two convenient ways to report outages 24 hours a day with no waiting on hold.

  • myTCEMC Mobile App
Outages can be reported via Tri-County EMC’s mobile app, myTCEMC. The app is available for download for both Android and Apple users.
  • TextTCEMC Outage Texting Program
If you don’t already participate in our outage texting program, now is a great time to enroll. Remember, your cellphone number must be up to date in our system 24 hours in advance. This number will identify your location when you report an outage. To update your contact information, call 1.866.254.8100, select 2 for Tri-County EMC, then choose 5 to update your phone number. You can also update your number via the customer portal or myTCEMC mobile app. Once your number is up to date, enroll in the program by sending ‘textTCEMC’ to 85700. Enrolled members can report an outage by texting ‘OUT’ to 85700. To receive an update about the outage, text ‘STATUS’.

Please do not attempt to report your outage via email or social media, including Facebook Messenger. We cannot guarantee that the message will be seen, as it is not monitored as closely as the other two methods above.

Why Reporting Outages Matters
While our technology helps identify many problems, not every outage is immediately visible from our control center.

Member outage reports help us:

  • Pinpoint affected areas faster
  • Identify isolated outages
  • Dispatch crews more efficiently
  • Prioritize restoration efforts safely
  • Verify when power has been restored

Reporting a Tri-CoGo Internet Outage
Internet outages will occur as a result of losing power. In many situations, power restoration will need to take place first for fiber repairs to be made safely. In this scenario, customers should follow Tri-County EMC’s protocol and report any power outages as quickly as possible.

Stay Updated on Social Media
While we do not allow for outage reporting via social media, we highly encourage our members to follow us on Facebook for the latest updates about current outages. Members can also view a live outage map of our service area on our website.

At Tri-County EMC, restoring power safely and quickly is always our top priority. By reporting outages promptly and accurately, members play an important role in helping our crews serve the community more effectively.
