Energy Audit Scam in Middle Georgia

Janaury 8, 2026 - Tri-County EMC representatives are issuing a warning to the cooperative's members regarding a possible energy audit scam. The alert follows recent reports of phone calls from a company claiming to be working for Tri-County EMC. The caller states that they have received multiple complaints about high bills in the area, and they offer to provide the members with a home energy audit. Several callers have given members specific time frames that they will arrive to conduct the home energy audits.

“Although Tri-County EMC no longer conducts in-home energy audits, there are times when employees are in the field maintaining equipment,” says CEO Ray Grinberg. “All Tri-County employees will be in uniform, have an ID badge available, and arrive in a marked Tri-County EMC vehicle.”

If anyone receives a questionable call from someone claiming to be from Tri-County EMC, they are encouraged to hang up and call the cooperative's office directly at 1.866.254.8100 or 478.986.8100.
