It’s Census Year! Every 10 years since 1790, the entire US population is counted. On April 1, the 2020 census count will begin. Each man, woman and child living in the US is required to be counted, as mandated by the Constitution. The census is more than a population count. It’s an opportunity to shape the future of  your community.

Data from the census helps determine our congressional representation and the distribution of federal funds. It is estimated that for every person not counted, your local community loses approximately $2,400 per person, per year in federal funds.

This year, the census can be completed online, making it even easier for every person to be counted. In March, you will be mailed a census form with instructions on completing the census online, by mail or by phone. When completing the census, your personal information will always be kept confidential and safe - it’s the law.

While you may see the census as another thing to check off of your growing to-do list, remember that every completed form means the potential for more dollars and services for your community.
