Tri-County EMC has chosen two students to represent the co-op for Georgia EMC’s Washington Youth Tour. Ariel Daniels and Matthew Dent will join 110 Georgia high school students on the week long leadership event this June. The Georgia students will join more than 1,500 students from 44 states for the event. As Georgia’s oldest leadership program for teens, the Washington Youth Tour is designed to teach high school students about U.S. history, government and the importance of public service.
Before flying to Washington D.C., the students will attend a kickoff banquet and spend a day in Georgia where they will develop their leadership skills through team building activities. Once in D.C., students will visit the Smithsonian Museum, Holocaust Museum, Union Station, Mount Vernon, Supreme Court, Capitol, Washington Monument, and the Jefferson World War II, Lincoln, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans monuments and memorials. Ariel Daniels is a senior at Baldwin County High School in Milledgeville. Ariel is a member of the marching band, where she currently serves as the assistant drum major. She has also been a member of the Beta Club, Book Club, Girl Scouts and numerous honor societies. After completing school, Ariel hopes to work as a lawyer for the U.S. Government.
Matthew Dent is a Junior at Gatewood School in Eatonton. He has served on the Student Government Association, Key Club, Anchor Club and Debate Team. He is also an avid athlete and has participated on the swim, soccer, golf and football teams. Outside of school, Matthew is active with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life and Rotary Club. Matthew also earned his Eagle Scout designation in May 2014.
