Washington Youth Tour
Each year, Tri-County EMC sponsors one local high-school student to represent Georgia as a delegate on the Washington Youth Tour, a weeklong adventure in Washington, D.C.
You could join 80 Georgia participants and more than 1,300 students from around the nation, all expenses paid, for one incredible week in our nation's capital. A fast-paced, up-close, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see with your own eyes, the sites and people at the center of our government. The trip is jam-packed with visits to historical sites and famous attractions throughout our nation's capital. Youth tour delegates will meet students representing electric cooperatives all across America. Former President Lyndon Johnson inspired the Washington Youth Tour by encouraging electric cooperatives to send youngsters to the nation's capital, where they can actually see what the flag stands for and represents. What better way to discover America's past and future while building leadership skills and friendships to last a lifetime?
High school sophomores and juniors who will be least 16 years of age by June are eligible to apply. An application and essay must be completed by mid-March of each year to qualify. The tour, which begins the second week of each June, includes travel, accomodations, and meals.
To receive an application, contact Tri-County EMC's Communication Specialist at (478) 986-8126 or community@tri-countyemc.com.
