Emergency Power Outage Information for Middle Georgia

Emergency Information

If Your Power is Off

First check your breaker box or fuse box to make sure the outage isn't due to a tripped breaker. Then try to determine the extent of the outage. Call your neighbors and see if their power is out too. If the power outage is due to a problem outside your home call the TriCounty EMC office 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. When you call please have the following information ready:

Stock Up On Candles In Case of Power Outage
  • Account name
  • Street address
  • Home phone
  • Cause of power outage (if you know it)

Extended Outages

Catastrophic events like ice storms can cause widespread outages that may continue for an extended period of time. It's wise to have back up plans in place to cope with an extended outage. Follow these tips to weather out a power outage:

Get Flashlights and Extra Batteries
  • Have flashlights and radios ready as well as extra batteries.
  • Don't open freezer or refrigerator doors any more than is absolutely necessary - this will help prevent food from spoiling.
  • Never cook inside with charcoal. The carbon monoxide fumes released by burning charcoal are toxic! Use extreme care when using auxiliary heaters and/or fireplaces.
  • If you depend on a well powered by an electric pump have a supply of drinking water on hand.
  • In the winter, don't open exterior doors more than necessary and use blankets, sleeping bags and extra clothes to keep warm.

Portable Generators

If you're using portable generators during a power outage, it is imperative that they are isolated from our lines. Generators of any size that are not isolated can feed back into our electrical system.
