Learning to Walk the Walk with the Dunnams

Walking the Walk features local, inspirational leaders who put other’s needs first. But, when does this "sense" of community spirit begin? Is it taught at a young age? Is it learned by observation? Or, does it just develop as we grow? Tom and Donna Dunnam believe the key is through example fostered at an early age. >>

Energy Tip of the Month

You’ve taken every step to lower your electric bill like sealing air leaks and raising your thermostat to 78 degrees. Or, is it possible some not-so-evident items were overlooked? It’s time to expose these standby power-draining devices.

Remote-controlled equipment (i.e., TVs and ceiling fans)

Appliances and electronics with continuous display (i.e.,microwave ovens and DVD players)

Chargers for phones and batteries

External supply items (i.e., printers)

You can save an average of $80.41 per year for each hour of standby power you avoid. Opt for ENERGY STAR®-labeled appliances and electronics for low standby levels. You can find recommended product standby levels at http://www1.eere.energy.gov/femp/procurement/eep_standby_power.html#identify.
