"Our Energy, Our Future," What Are You Doing?
|
Last month, in Current Lines, I challenged you to help find ways to meet our future energy needs and to keep the price we pay for a kWh affordable for all of us. This month I’m asking you more direct questions. What are you planning to do? What have you done already? If you haven’t done any of these things, why not?

A Mother's Love: A Community's Will
|
It’s been proven. A mother’s love can exceed just about any physical limitation when it comes to helping her child. This is the case for Ruth Watson—an elderly Jones County resident who is caring for her middle-aged son left completely paralyzed from a traffic accident. >>>

Energy Solution Member Resources Available
|
Tri-County EMC gives you the tools you need to be a part of your energy future.
Energy Efficiency The August issue of Current Lines featured a Personal Commitment Certificate to meet Future Energy Needs. By pledging to control your home’s energy use through renewables, conservation and the No Sweat Air-Conditioning and Existing Home Insulation programs, you will reduce your home’s impact on our state’s energy needs. If you haven’t already done so, commit to being a part of the energy solution. (70570-01)
Influencing Public Policy Have you addressed three critcal issues with your elected officials at ourenergy.coop?
What is your plan to make sure we have the electricity we will need in the future?
What are you doing to speed the development of new technology to allow me to have the electricity I need while meeting our nation’s climate policy goals?
How much is all this going to increase my electric bill? How will you make it affordable?
Don’t have Internet access? Dialogue cards are located in both offices. Once you complete a card, we will contact your federal legislators on your behalf. Call 478.986.8100 or 1.866.254.8100 to learn how you can help. <<

Fueling Innovative Learning Through Bright Ideas
|
Tri-County EMC offers Bright Ideas education grants up to $1,500 to area Georgia-certified teachers in grades Pre-K through 12. These funds will give teachers in Baldwin, Jones, Putnam, Twiggs and Wilkinson counties the power to put their creativity to work. Projects will be judged based on innovation, goals, learning objectives, student involvement and budget. Grants are open to all subjects. (50563-01)
|
 |
|
The funds for Bright Ideas are made possible through the EMC’s unclaimed capital credits that otherwise would have been surrendered to the state. Legislation passed in 2005 enables Georgia EMCs to reinvest these unclaimed capital credits in their communities.
Applications can be found at tri-countyemc.com under the community tab. All applications must be received by December 15, 2008 to be considered for funding. <<

Energy Tip of the Month
As another heart-warming Holiday season rolls in, so does approximately one million tons of waste between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. Show you care by showering your loved ones with presents that use less energy and create less trash.
Stuff stockings with compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs).
Purchase only Energy Star® labeled electronics.
How about giving a programmable thermostat to help save on heating and air costs? (37853-01)
Bestow blankets, sweaters or scarves to hold down heating costs. Look for clothes and products made from recycled materials.
