Welcome to the July edition of Current Lines newsletter, a monthly publication of Tri-County EMC. Below are a few samples of the articles in this current newsletter.

Students Receive Cooperative Scholarships

>> Three high school students received $1,000 scholarships from Tri-County EMC. We commend their commitment to their studies and community.

Helping people comes naturally to Madely "Madi" McNeal. Soon, she will begin her venture toward medical school as a biology major at the University of Georgia (UGA). "All I want is the chance to go to medical school to achieve the goal of helping other people get good medical help whether it’s affordable or not." Madi is the daughter of Syldia McNeal of Jones County. (18387-01)

With the goal of helping others obtain the patriot principles and become assets to society, Sierra Floyd will set out to earn her law degree and eventually become a politician. This fall, she will major in philosophy at the University of West Georgia. "I want to motivate others to make good decisions," says Sierra, the daughter of Shawn and Glynn Leverett of Putnam County.

"Dream big, but be faithful in the small" is Kristen Whipple’s motto. In becoming a physical therapist, she wants to minister and reach out to people in the community through her profession. She will attend UGA this fall majoring in exercise science. Kristen is the daughter of Miles and Rhonda Whipple of Baldwin County. <<


No Sweat Installs on the Rise

Since Tri-County EMC began offering its No Sweat load management program to residential members in February, more than 500 switches have been installed on the system. And, more are being installed each day.  >>>

Foundation Awards June Quarter Operation Roundup Funds

The Tri-County EMC Foundation awarded $12,000 in June. >>>

Operation Roundup Scholarships Awarded

>> Two area students received $1,000 scholarships through Operation Roundup. Awards were based on academics, financial need and service to others.

Chances are, in a few years you will find Rebecca "Joy" Dunnam working as a registered nurse (RN) on a foreign mission project or in a local hospital. The daughter of Tom and Donna Dunnam of Gordon, Joy is finishing her first year in nursing at Georgia College & State University. As a sophomore at Macon State College, Todd Daniels of Gray hopes to serve the needs of a small community as an RN. "I see a need developing for affordable clinics in rural Georgia." Daniels and his wife, Denise, both work and have three children.

Tri-County EMC Operation Roundup Foundation Scholarship applications can be found under the Community tab at tri-countyemc.com. Application deadlines are April 15 and October 15. Preference is given to nontraditional students. <<

Community Blood Drive

>> The American Red Cross and Tri-County EMC will hold a Community Blood Drive at the Gray office on Monday, August 11 from 2 until 7 p.m. Members of the community are invited to attend. (1537-01) <<


AARP Driver Safety Class

>> The American Association of Retired Persons will hold a Mature Driver Safety class in Tri-County’s Community Room in Gray August 13 from 12:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. and August 14 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. To register, call (478) 968-5039. <<

Energy Tip of the Month


 >> As part of his Conserve Georgia initiative, Gov. Sonny Perdue asks us to reduce our energy use by 15 percent by 2020 through efficiency and renewables. Here’s your challenge.

  •  Set your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher in the summer.

  •  Replace heating and air unit filters once a month.

  •  Turn off electrical equipment not in use.

  •  Use dimmers, timers and motion detectors in lighting.

  •  Wash only full loads of clothes or dishes.

  •  Use a toaster oven, crock pot or microwave versus the oven.

  •  Replace incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent                                
     lamps.
