Installation of TWACS Begins

Tri-County EMC began the initial phase of installing its two-way automatic communication system (TWACS) in September. Once installed, TWACS will use Tri-County’s existing power lines to communicate with every meter on its system in several different ways. 

 “TWACS will allow us more than just drive-by meter reading,” says Steve McClendon, VP/COO, Tri-County EMC. “It will dramatically enhance service to our members by enabling us to remotely identify voltage problems, work high bill complaints, poll to insure that all meters are energized following an outage, the possibilities go on.”

utilizing employee time. It will increase efficiency and reduce costs,” said McClendon.

 The first TWACS installation is  in Baldwin County’s Cedar Creek substation serving around 3,500 meters.  In 2007, Tri-County EMC will begin expanding  TWACS  throughout its service territory.
