New Commercial Deposits Required

In July, Tri-County EMC’s Board of Directors established a policy requiring deposits on all new commercial accounts.  A minimum deposit of $400 or two times the average bill for the facility will be required for new commercial accounts at existing locations.  The deposit for new facilities will be determined by the square footage and the business type. According to Tri-County EMC VP/CFO Dawn Haskins, “This new deposit schedule will serve to protect all of our members from exposure to failed businesses.”

Energy Tip of the Month

Your energy consumption for water heating is divided among three types of use: heating efficiency, standby loss and consumption.

Heating efficiency is how well your water heater converts electricity into hot water. When purchasing a water heater, compare the Energy Factor (EF) rating. Choose an appliance with the highest EF rating coupled with an ENERGY STAR-rating for the best savings.

The heat that escapes through the walls of your water heater tank  is called standby loss. A newer tank with a high EF provides the best insulation. If your water heater is older, install a water heater blanket.

Reduce your hot water consumption by using a low-flow showerhead. You’ll save 5 to 10 gallons of water per shower. Using a cold-water wash cycle for clothes, will save you up to 10 gallons of hot water per cycle.
