Co-op Issues Discussed With Legislators

>> Tri-County EMC CEO C. “Hill” Bentley, Secretary/Treasurer Thomas Noles and Attorney Tom Daniel joined thousands of cooperative leaders in Washington, D.C. May 1- 3 to discuss issues critical to Georgia’s EMCs and consumers during the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Legislative Conference. Cooperative representatives spoke with their congressmen about Rural Utilities Service funding, the extension of renewable energy bonds, reforming freight rail monopolies to protect rail customers like EMCs and  opposing a hike in Power Marketing Administration rates that could raise energy costs.

“In today’s world, the growth is in rural areas,” states Hill Bentley, CEO, Tri-County EMC. “Cooperative leaders are a valuable source for information as we are tied to agriculture and rural areas. Legislators take our concerns very seriously.”

During the conference, EMCs honored Georgia’s Congressional delegation with donations of $3,000 to the Georgia Family Support Foundation, an organization providing emergency assistance to the families of Georgia’s National Guard and Reserve soldiers. This latest gift brings the total EMC contribution to date to $20,000. Georgia’s EMCs helped kick off the fundraising effort for the Foundation in January. The initiative was introduced by Gov. Sonny Perdue and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce to aid Georgia’s men and women in the 48th Brigade, Georgia National Guard. (5816-01)  <<
