Walking the Walk

A special editorial by Greg Mullis

"Walking the Walk" was intended to highlight the efforts of an individual. But in this instance, a group of Tri-County employees must be recognized for their sacrifice and resolve. The devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana and Mississippi is now well documented. In Mississippi, over a half-million electric cooperative customers lost power. For thousands, there is nothing left to serve. At the height of the outage, nine of Mississippi's 25 EMCs had virtually no meters on and one had approximately 30,000 broken poles. Energy Tip of the Month

Do something daring this Halloween. Scrub the ghosts out of your refrigerator. It is the perfect time for thrill seekers to plunge into the unknown cold depths to clean sticky spills and discard foods disguised in some goulish color.

s Unplug the appliance, and pull it away from the wall.
s Check food labels, and discard food that has expired.
Vacuum the coils behind and under the fridge.
s Check the gasket (the soft, rubber piece that seals the door to the
body of the refrigerator) for gaps.
s Plug the refrigerator back in leaving a space between the coils and the
wall to allow for airflow. (39267-01)
