Tri-County Chairman Honored by Co-ops
>> Tom Thompson Jr., chairman of the Tri-County EMC board of directors, joined an elite group of statewide leaders. On March 7, he was presented the Distinguished Cooperator Award for outstanding achievement in the cooperative industry.
The 2004 award recognizes individuals whose leadership ensures the success and efficiency of Georgia co-ops. Community members are nominated for this prestigious award by the Georgia Cooperative Council, a committee comprised of co-op representatives throughout the state. "The award is another way to honor individuals who promote and support the cooperative way of business," says Dick Schermerhorn, professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics at the University of Georgia and executive secretary of the Co-op Council. Thompson also serves as president of the Georgia Milk Producers, Inc.; chairman of the University of Georgia, College of Veterinary Medicines advisory board; and chairman of the Maryland-Virginia Milk Producers Association's audit committee.
The Georgia Cooperative Council is a statewide, non-profit cooperative comprised of members representing marketing, supply, financial, electric, telephone, cotton, poultry and service cooperatives. The Council educates the public about co-ops and recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to cooperative businesses. <<
