Surviving Ice Storm 2005
>> On behalf of the directors and employees of Tri-County EMC, we would like to thank our members for your patience and understanding during the recent ice storm. On Saturday, January 30, as ice built to a half inch or greater on trees and power lines, middle Georgia began a four-day ordeal that saw thousands of power outages and long days and nights for our employees.
In all, about 8,500 Tri-County members had their power interrupted for some period of time. With limbs and trees still falling over 24 hours into the ice storm, power was restored to many areas, only to have it go out again. Power was ultimately restored to all but a handful of members by Tuesday evening.
Certainly, this ice storm was a trying ordeal for everyone. The widespread nature of the storm meant an incredible amount of labor and is certainly one of the worst to ever hit the cooperative. Tri-County EMC line crews, aided by other employees cross-trained to assist during outages and dozens of other linemen brought in from other utilities, worked long shifts in very demanding conditions. During the outage, employees staffing telephones answered 37,853 calls and made 4,992 outbound calls, many callbacks to ensure that power had been restored.
Again, we regret the discomfort and inconvenience that this ice storm may have caused, and we greatly appreciate your patience as we worked to restore outages. Every member of our cooperative is important, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve your needs. <<
